Serves 4
Difficulty Easy
Prep Time 30 minutes
Cooking Time about 8 hours on low

  • 500g chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 3cm chunks
  • 1/2 an onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped ginger
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp tomato puree
  • 350ml of plain yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (more if you like a spicy curry!)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 125ml double cream
  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • A good handful of coriander

  1. In a large bowl, mix the chopped onion, garlic, ginger, tomato puree, yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, Garam Masala, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper and cayenne pepper. Pour into the slow cooker.
  2. Seal the chicken chunks, and add them to the slow cooker mix, along with the bay leaf. Cook on low for 8 hours.
  3. Thirty minutes before serving, combine the double cream and cornflower in a bowl, then stir into the mix into the curry in the slow cooker. Prepare your rice whilst the curry finishes off in the slow cooker.
  4. Check the seasoning and sweetness, you can sweeten it with half of a teaspoon of brown sugar if it's too bitter for your taste. Serve with plenty of chopped coriander sprinkled on top.

I cooked this for me and my boyfriend for the first time last night. I halved all the ingredients listed, except the chopped tomatoes where I used the full tin still. The curry was so so tasty. I'm so glad I went out and bought all the spices listed as I will be definitely making it again. There was such a depth of flavour in this curry that I've never achieved before when making them myself. Very impressed.

I cooked this for my wife and her friends - and they loved it. It was easy, and very tasty. I added in the chopped tomatoes (no mention in the method) in the first phase and it worked very well. Definitely one we'll do again!

This is by far and away the best chicken tikka masala I've ever tasted. I was blown away by the depth of flavour created by cooking in the slow cooker. Thank you for sharing. I have shared it amongst friends and family and they are all in love with this curry. Even the chicken tikka masala in our favourite curry house isn't as good. Superb :-) In fact all the recipes I have tried on here have been brilliant. Keep them coming! I trust your flavours totally x
