Slow Cooker Mulled Wine

Slow Cooker Mulled Wine is quite simply, a must try in the slow cooker for the Christmas period and for any other time the weather turns.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cooking Time about 4 hours on high

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of red wine (Suggestions: Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot)
  • 300ml apple juice
  • 300ml water
  • Juice of 1 orange
  • 1 thinly sliced orange
  • 1 thinly sliced lemon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • approx. 5 cloves (to taste)
  • 2 star anise
  • 50ml brandy (a double shot)
  • Sugar or honey (to taste)

Method

  1. Turn the slow cooker onto high.
  2. Tip in the apple juice, orange juice, wine, brandy and water into the slow cooker.
  3. Add the orange and lemon, cinnamon, cloves, star anise, and cook on high for an hour. Turn the slow cooker down to low, and cook for a further 3 or so hours.
  4. Once "brewed" check it for sweetness. Add a few teaspoons of sugar or honey to taste if you prefer a sweeter mulled wine.
