keep warm and auto settings 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Is there a difference between the a "keep warm" function and "auto" function? I just got a slow cooker today which has an auto setting but i want to know if it will automatically keep the food warm until i get in from work as i work long 10 hour days. I don't want it to keep cooking past the recipe guide time as that could be dangerous i guess?

I don't have a keep warm funtion on my slow cooker but I do have an auto setting. My book that came with the cooker said that when set on auto it will cook on 'high' setting until the dish is at boiling point and then reduce the setting automatically to 'low' setting to simmer the dish. Hope this helps.

I guess it depends on the recipe too, but my slow cooker doesn't have an 'auto' setting (it's only a cheapy one). If I'm out at work all day I'll always stick it on low just before leaving.

Not sure I like the thought of the slow cooker deciding when something is boiling or not whilst I'm not there

Usually an auto setting will cook on the higher of 2 settings for a period of time then drop down to the lower / keep warm setting. I am not too sure how long mine stays on high then drops but Auto is what I use if I am going out and leaving it for 8 hours or so ... so far no disasters!
